Point Russell Website Redesign

With the increase in vacation home ownership and nightly rentals such as Airbnb and VRBO, City Council is interested in understanding the short-term rentals in-depth and whether short-term rentals are impacting the community as it pertains to tenants, neighborhood character, sales and lodging tax collection, as well as safety and enforcement.What is a Short-Term Rental?A short-term rental is a furnished living space available for short periods of time of up to 30 days. Short-term rentals are also commonly known as vacation rentals and are considered an alternative to a hotel. <h3>Understanding short-term rentals</h3>Many people who own a second home or vacation property generate income by renting out their home when they&rsquo;re away.Because short-term rentals are most often used by people on vacation, stays might vary from a few nights to several weeks; some are leased for as long as a month. Over the last 10 years, the use of shared economy brands like VRBO, HomeAway and Airbnb has exploded. Staying in short-term rentals is so common that many companies allow employees to expense their stays just like a hotel room.Homeowners choose a short-term rental strategy for income potential, marketing automation (through sites like Airbnb), overall flexibility and tax benefits. Short-term rental requires less commitment than a long-term lease and tenant, and works well if the homeowner wants to enjoy the home themselves.That said, short-term rentals do have drawbacks. Owners are responsible for cleaning, coordination and maintenance to keep the property in guest-ready condition. Seasonality can also play a part in whether a rental will be in demand &mdash; meaning owners might have to give up personal stays during the most popular times of the year.Local restrictions are another critical consideration. Each city or county defines what qualifies as a short-term rental property, and the fees are hefty for homeowners who rent under the radar. Owners should verify local regulations, zoning, taxes and licensing before leasing their property.

Point Russell&#39;s Department of Parks and Recreation needs your help to establish a new approach to funding conservation and outdoor recreation. Please visit the &quot;Sharing Ideas&quot; section below to share your ideas for supporting conservation and outdoor recreation opportunities for generations to come.Point Russell&#39;s current natural resources funding system can&rsquo;t sustainably support continued conservation, natural resource management, and outdoor recreation opportunities. User fees have been kept artificially low by grant funding to increase park access, and those grants are due to end this year. Fundraisers for reforestation and storm water projects have been successful, but these funds are not available to support other key aspects of natural resource management.We appreciate all of the support the residents of Point Russell have provided in volunteer efforts, park attendance, and previous fundraisers. To work towards a better parks experience for our residents we&#39;re taking this time to source additional ideas and recommendations as to how we can more sustainably fund parks, and which programs and facilities should be prioritized with that funding.Help us move towards a future where:<ul><li>Future generations benefit from sustained and improved outdoor recreation experiences and conservation of natural resources<ul><li>Robust, diverse, and high-quality outdoor resources offering nature-based recreation opportunities</li><li>Conservation and outdoor recreation decisions based on community values and informed by science and proven best management practices</li></ul></li><li>Point Russell residents work together to support both diverse outdoor recreation opportunities and conservation of our state&rsquo;s natural features<ul><li>The relationship between conservation and recreation uses and spaces is fully understood and accounted for in decision making</li><li>Resources are managed in a manner that fosters innovation and adaptation to changing ecological, social, and technological conditions</li></ul></li><li>Conservation and outdoor recreation opportunities equitably meet the needs of all Point Russell residents<ul><li>All residents can access conservation and outdoor recreation services and resources equitably, and management of resources adapts to meet resident needs as they change over time</li><li>Support for conservation and outdoor recreation is broad-based with shared stewardship across users and uses</li></ul></li><li>Conservation and outdoor recreation align with and are integrated into Point Russell state priorities of strong educational systems, equitable access to health resources, thriving economy, and reliable infrastructure.<ul><li>Conservation and outdoor recreation are integrated with, supportive, and supported by other related state priorities</li><li>Conservation and outdoor recreation are recognized by all as &ldquo;need to have&rdquo;, rather than &ldquo;nice to have&rdquo;, in funding and policy decision making.</li><li>To help identify alignment with other priorities, solutions for management and funding issues are developed by participants with a variety of experiences and perspectives and with a broad definition of nature and nature experiences</li></ul></li></ul>We are aiming to have identified actionable solutions by second half of 2022.Subscribe to stay up to date and to get alerts when there are new opportunities to add your voice to the conversation.
